Volunteer Spa Day

Location: Yakima, Wash.

Quadruple Aim: Consideration of staff satisfaction

Total number of volunteers: 400

Number of beds: 226

Goal: Give back to volunteers in the form of relaxation and stress relief.

Summary of program: Volunteers sign up for 15 minutes of hand, foot and/or back massages as well as guided meditation sessions. Volunteers can choose to have all massages or just one. Spa Day is held at The University of Excellence, Memorial's Education Center. The room is set up to reflect the ambiance of a spa. This includes natural oil diffusers, soft music and windows draped with tapestries to dim the light in the room. The sessions begin with gentle yoga, where volunteers are guided through seated yoga techniques meant to relax and release stress. A cheese and fruit platter as well as infused water, tea and hot coffee are provided as refreshments. Spa Day was created as a token of appreciation for volunteers' invaluable gift of time. Its purpose is to offer volunteers a day of massages, meditation and mostly relaxation.

Roles of the volunteers: Enjoy the event!!!

Roles of staff: Plan and set up event, support the agencies we partner with and ensure volunteers are enjoying their time.

Primary collaborators: Volunteer Services, Elite Academy (local massage academy), Local Yoga instructor, Memorial Café

Outcomes and benefits: Volunteers express that they feel cared for and recognized by the organization.

Future plans: We will continue to offer the annual appreciation event for volunteers.
