Welcome Messages

Transformational Leadership: Educate, Empower, Inspire is my theme for the 2019 Annual Conference & Exposition. Our world of volunteers is continually changing as is the health care arena we serve. We are faced and confronted with new paradigms in our world every day. Even AHVRP is experiencing change and transition this year so it is clear no one is immune from these disruptors.

Across the health care spectrum, resources are tighter, hospital regulatory requirements become ever more stringent, volunteers can be challenging to recruit and positions that make volunteers feel they make a difference take some creativity and extra time for us to develop.

However, as transformational volunteer leaders, we are prepared for the continual evolution of our field. We are ready to be flexible, meet change head on and find those opportunities for volunteers that didn’t exist before. The announcement of conference dates and location might have been delayed, but it will not impact the power this conference will have. We will come together as volunteer professionals in Dallas to share best practices, meet new contacts and learn new educational opportunities through amazing speakers. The friendships you make will be not only be cherished, but professionally beneficial. My hope is you leave Dallas more inspired and empowered then when you arrived.

The 2019 Annual Conference Planning Committee is working diligently to provide you with an amazing conference geared towards your needs. This conference is about you, the strength of volunteers and how you impact them every day. Volunteer leadership, new ideas from your peers, award recognition and the impact of your volunteers on health care is always the strategic focus.

We are a strong, professional organization full of extraordinary leaders. This conference only solidifies the great work that you provide day in and day out.

I am excited at the prospect of meeting you at the conference and hearing the impact your volunteers have on your organization. Come to Dallas to gather with your cohorts, share your amazing stories and rejuvenate your soul. Come away Educated by the sessions, Empowered as a leader, Inspired by the experience and ready for what’s ahead in this ever-changing landscape.

Transformational Leadership: EducateEmpowerInspire

In the world of health care, we are well versed about the importance of flexibility and accountability. We work with community members who have chosen our hospital to give their time and talents. Our leadership and sense of community helps balance the challenges that come with managing a volunteer workforce. This is the time for us to reflect on the past and prepare for the new challenges that we will face.

So, what does Transformational Leadership mean? Defining this is ultimately up to you. We are all educators, we empower our staff and volunteers to speak up, share ideas and help us drive our programs forward. I believe we inspire our volunteers, but often I think they inspire us to go above and beyond for them.

They say that change is inevitable and that it is the only constant we have in life. However, I believe that together we can shape change in a way that allows us to better support one another with the opportunity to ease the way for those we serve. I encourage you all to network, step out of your comfort zone and find those ah-ha moments that you can take back with you.

Transformation Leadership starts with you. The Annual Conference Planning Committee brings leaders from across the country together, but it was your feedback that will help guide us in building a conference that is about you and for you. I hope you’ll join your colleagues to network throughout the conference.  We will have concurrent sessions, keynote speakers, the conference mobile app and information on how you can get involved with AHVRP and future conferences.

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”
