Sally Rundquist, RN, from St John’s Mercy Medical Center in St Louis, is the visionary creator of the hospital’s first Volunteer Nurse Program. Not only has the program been very successful at their medical center, but she has consulted with over 60 hospitals to establish similar programs. The program has received the American Hospital Association’s HAVE Award for in-patient excellence in May 2005. The AHVRP recognized the program with its Extraordinary Award in August 2007 and the Missouri Association of Directors of Volunteer Services (MADVS) Award for Excellence in November 2007.
Gerry O’Shaughnessy is the manager of Volunteer Services at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, for 12 years. Riverside is a 1,000 + bed hospital and part of OhioHealth, a not-for-profit health system in Central Ohio with 1,250 + volunteers.
