Teaching Volunteers to Provide Emotional Support in a Hospital Environment

Tuesday, November 18, 2008
2:00 p.m. (Eastern)
1:00 p.m. (Central)
12:00 p.m. (Mountain)
11:00 a.m. (Pacific)

  • Are you challenged with finding ways that volunteers can make a significant difference to those with whom they interact?
  • Are your volunteers looking for meaningful interactions with patients that have a need for human presence?

Discover How Your Department Can Enhance Patient
Satisfaction When Volunteers Provide Emotional Support

The emotional support training program focuses on giving volunteers the skills needed to provide emotional support to patients.  Patients are more satisfied, as their emotional needs are being addressed, and staff morale is enhanced.  When patients are happy, caregivers are happy!

Through a live presentation with Power Point and an interactive Q&A session, participants learn to:

  • Empower volunteers to see their role with patients as significant
  • Develop a training program for volunteers in their own hospital environment
  • Enhance their own competencies and share with their volunteers lessons in active listening, non-verbal gestures of care, boundaries, dealing with difficult patients, families and staff

Presented at the 2008 AHVRP Annual Conference to a record number of attendees and having received outstanding evaluations from the participants, this session is now available to you!  Registered participants will receive one set of materials e-mailed (you may photocopy) and one toll-free telephone connection to the seminar.
