2008 Award for Excellence Recipient
AHVRP presented its most prestigious honor, The Award for excellence, at the recent conference in Anaheim, California. This award is given in recognition of individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service and contribution to the Association and to the profession of healthcare volunteer management. The 2008 Award for Excellence was presented to Margie Harris, CAVS, CDVS. Margie has been the DVS for Morton Plant Mease Healthcare in Dunedin, Florida since 1986, and has been an active member of AHVRP for 30 years. Totally committed to advancing the practice of healthcare volunteer management, she has balanced her professional contribution on local, state and national levels while overseeing 2,100 volunteers across four not-for-profit hospital campuses. Margie serves as liaison to two separate Auxiliaries and functions as a consultant for six additional hospitals and Auxiliaries in her healthcare system. Her dedication and willingness to respond to the numerous requests from AHVRP for best practices, PICH/Insights articles and training materials for Volunteer Administrators and volunteers has been outstanding.

Margie's impressive resume includes:

  • Certified national trainer for the AHVRP Principles Course since 1997
  • Chaired the Principles Course sub-committee for seven years
  • Co-authored a total revision and update of the course
  • Served on AHVRP Membership, Marketing and Education Committees
  • Facilitated Intensive Session on Integrating Staff and Volunteers in 2002, High Impact Services in 2005, many Principles Course sessions throughout the years at conferences
  • Conducted twenty-one additional Principles Course sessions on the state and regional levels
  • Conducted numerous workshops on Joint Commission, Time Management, Change, Auxiliary/Volunteer Services Partnership and HIPAA
  • Developed and marketed the first HIPAA training DVD/Video package focused exclusively on healthcare volunteers
  • Founder and President of Higherimpact Enterprises, specializing in training and curriculum development in the field of healthcare volunteer administration
  • Instrumental in providing chapters for the Legal, Risk Management and JCAHO Issues for Healthcare Organizations and the Addendum
  • Contributed to the 2006 AHVRP Interpretation of The Joint commission Standards and CAVS Review Guide publications
  • Won three national AHVRP Extraordinary Program Awards
