Purpose:
The Committee on Volunteers is concerned with the roles, responsibilities and services of organized volunteers and auxilians, as well as the community perspective they provide for the healthcare field. This committee supports the AHA mission and policy agenda by its activities in public policy issue identification and development and recommendation of specific policies; identification of institutional practices requiring AHA consideration and action; advising the Association on programs and services directed to volunteers and auxilians; participating in AHA grassroots advocacy; and providing the Association with the benefit of its community perspective on issues related to the health care field.
Membership:
The Committee on Volunteers is composed of 15 members, including the chair, who is always an auxilian or volunteer, and the current Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals (AHVRP
) President, who serves as an ex-officio member. The committee includes volunteer, auxiliary and trustee leaders; directors of volunteer services, hospital managers and state association staff who have liaison relationships with volunteer services and auxiliary departments, and chief executive officers or executive managers in AHA-member healthcare institutions, systems and stateassociations.
Meetings:
The committee meets twice a year. In 2008, the committee will meet on February 21st - 22nd, in Washington, DC, and on October 7th-8th, in Chicago, IL. The committee also convenes via conference call.
